Les Secrets Des Enfoires 2008

Kevin Keegan was 1 of my favourite players as he was so full of enthusiasm and was able to take limited football ability to the very top. He gave his manager, fans and teammates everything and you could not but admire him for that. He did not have the skills of George Best, Kenny Dalglish, Glenn Hoddle or Liam Brady.

As a manager he tended to do the same thing as he compensated for his shortcomings as a tactician by being a motivator. He could talk a good game, though some of his sayings are outlandish at the very least.

As England manager, his limitations were cruelly exposed and he quit as manager following defeat to Germany in the last ever match at the old Wembley. He got stick for it, which I thought was ridiculous as it was the best thing he could have done for his country unlike some managers that stay on when it is patently clear they are out of their depth.

He is a very likeable man and you always want his to succeed but there are signs that he is not up to this particular job no matter how much you are willing him on.

The other week he came out to say that Scottish football is where to find good talent and that Scotland as it was 20 odd years ago is where English clubs should go to look for young talents.

The funny thing is that he was linked to Aiden McGeady at the time but Aiden is actually Irish. I am not sure if Sir Alex Ferguson would take Scott Brown over Cristiano Ronaldo or Arsene Wenger would take Barry Ferguson over Cesc Fabregas.

Last night's draw against Birmingham City should make Mike Ashley a very worried man as Keegan again showed that he is nowhere up to the job. His team selection was baffling with him playing a midfield of Joey Barton, Obafemi Martins, Nicky Butt and Geremi.

Obviously there is not an ounce of creativity in that midfield when upfront you have Mark Viduka and Michael Owen. Owen did get the goal but I just wonder if it would not be better for Newcastle if he is dropped for Martins and Viduka.

Martins was livelier than Owen and Viduka has a lot of ability with is hold-up play and all round game whilst Owen is just a goal poacher. Goal scorers are very valuable in football, no doubt, but in Owen's case he does nothing else. His admirers would point to his record especially in big games for England.

Granted, he scored goals against Argentina in 1998 world cup, Brazil in 2002 world cup and Portugal in 2004 European championships but what else did he do in the games as England managed to lose all those games.

Martins and Viduka just seem a better partnership and from now to the end of the season should be the way to go as Newcastle are in trouble. As for the midfield, I am not sure what the personality problem is with Charles N'Zogbia but he should always play ahead of Joey Barton as he has no business being on the football pitch as he contributed nothing last night and has done nothing at Newcastle but to bring shame and bad publicity to the club.

Geremi has never been creative, has no pace and cannot cross the ball properly so why he is playing as a right winger is indeed a puzzler. The defence is shocking with Abdoulaye Faye given a right run around by James McFadden last night and it might have been better for Keegan to either say to Steven Taylor to take on McFadden or bring off Faye altogether for Cacapa, he just left it to fate.
